"Alpha Blue captures a distinct desert charm, as heard from a lonesome barstool in the middle of nowhere."
- Kevin Hopper "Backstage Pass", Albuquerque Journal
"The diversity in Alpha Blue's sound is completely unconventional. It takes the listener on a pseudo-trip from the folk world of the Middle East to the European countryside, all the way back to the deserts of Albuquerque."
- Nancy Chang UNM Daily Lobo
Albuquerque's Alpha Blue plays blues, rock, pop, folk, country, and a little bit of Spanish as well as original songs that run the gamut. In their rockin' desert blues, the road runs forever--the sound is sun-drenched and blue-sky wide, refreshing as a mountain spring, yet shot-of-whiskey hot.
The heart of the group is the dynamic duo of Keith Levine (Frankenstein) on acoustic and electric lead and rhythm guitars and growly baritone vocals, and Debo (Manna From Nowhere, Animal Opera, Splinter Fish) on keyboards and accordion and expressive honeyed alto vocals. Michael Grimes (Mulvalina Voo Voo) on the electric or stand-up bass deftly ties it all together, while drummer Zoom (Liquid Gypsy) lays down the powerful beats.
A ride with Alpha Blue is a travelogue of diverse pop music influences sampled with unabashed eclecticism. The sensibility is more than a little country, though which country is hard to say. From the rockin' roots of Americana to the jazz-tinged blues where East meets West, romantic power pop yields to driven gypsy jams and careens wildly back again, racing to the horizon.
Alpa Blue's debut CD "Agave Summer" is available from CDBaby.
